Photo Madness: NXNE 2013

Social Distortion

The 19th year of NXNE (North by Northeast) was the biggest, most dynamic, and most successful festival yet, with more artists, new Comedy and Art components and 20% more fans attending overall. NXNE is now half the size of its sister festival SXSW and is poised for further growth in 2014 – the 20th anniversary of this massive music and arts festival.

During the 7-day festival, June 10-16, 2013, 1000 bands played over 60 venues across the city, including a combined audience of 145,000 at Yonge-Dundas Square (YDS) over four days with performances by Social Distortion, The National, Billy Talent and Ludacris that made it necessary for Toronto Police to close Yonge Street three straight nights to accommodate the massive crowds flooding the site.

“This is my first time playing this festival. But god help me it won’t be my last.”, said Ludacris to the swelling crowd at YDS on Sunday night.
