Device Promises Dog Translation

dog translationDog translation: A group of scientists has invented an electronic device that promises to analyze dogs “brain waves” and translate a few of their thoughts into rudimentary English.

The design team belonging to the Sweden-based Nordic Society for Invention and Discovery (NSID), point out that the mechanism is simple, because it has sensors that can record electroencephalogram (EEG) readings, a technique already used in other areas.

To make interpretations, the EEG readings are then analyzed by a Raspberry Pi microcomputer programmed to translate those EEG readings into simple phrases like, “I’m hungry,” or “Who is that person?” Once translated, those phrases will be reported over a small speaker.

To Cromwell, co-founder of the company developing the product, explained that each brain generates patterns when it thinks, so we only have to map these patterns and interpret them.

In the case of dogs, we have managed to identify and distinguish between feelings of tiredness, anger, curiosity and hunger, he added.

Experts are working to offer the product with different tones of voice and sounds that fit the breed of each dog and, at the same time, working to diversify the languages in which sounds are emitted. (PL)
