Hot Docs, Entertainment One (eOne) and Cineplex Entertainment have announced the Canadian premiere of SUPER DUPER ALICE COOPER, presented during the Hot Docs Festival as part of Hot Docs Live! Directors Reginald Harkema, Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn will join rock icon Alice Cooper onstage in Toronto for the premiere and a post-screening Q&A that Cineplex Entertainment’s Front Row Centre Events will simulcast to 46 theatres across Canada.
“The return of our Hot Docs Live! Program will bring the excitement of the Festival to more than 40 cities across Canada,” says Brett Hendrie, Hot Docs executive director. “If I said we had a secret plan to bring Alice Cooper, three great Canadian filmmakers, and the Hot Docs Festival into communities coast-to-coast, I’d be lying. But, happily these pieces came together and now national audiences from Saint John to Victoria will be able to attend Hot Docs.”
Super Duper Alice Cooper is the story of Vincent Furnier, preacher’s son, who struck fear into the hearts of parents as Alice Cooper, the ultimate rock star of the bizarre. The film is the first ever “doc opera”—a dizzying blend of documentary archive footage, animation and rock opera—and features exclusive interviews with members of the original Alice Cooper Group, Elton John, Iggy Pop, John Lydon, Dee Snider and Alice himself. SDAC is the creation of Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn at Banger Films, producers of Iron Maiden: Flight 666 (2009 SXSW Audience Choice Winner) and Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage (2010 Grammy nominated and Tribeca Audience Choice Winner), and much-lauded filmmaker Reginald Harkema, winner of the TIFF Special Jury Prize for his film Monkey Warfare.
The Hot Docs Live! presentation of SUPER DUPER ALICE COOPER with special guest Alice Cooper will take place on Monday, April 28, at 9:00 pm at the Scotiabank Theatre Toronto. Tickets are $19.25 + HST and are available at www.hotdocs.ca or at the Hot Docs documentary Box Office.
Cineplex Entertainment’s Front Row Centre Events will simulcast the event to 46 Cineplex Entertainment theatres across Canada at 10:00 pm AT, 9:00 pm ET, 8:00 pm CT, 7:00 pm MT, and 6:00 pm PT.
