UN Calls for Independent, Full Investigation on Malaysia Plane Crash

Malaysia_PlaneThe Security Council of the United Nations today called for an independent and comprehensive international investigation to determine the cause of the downing of a Malaysian aircraft with 298 people on board in Ukraine territory. A statement from the executive organ of the international organization, adopted by consensus, urged the parties to ensure experts access to the site.

The Security Council, chaired by Rwanda this month, made an emergency meeting to discuss the tragedy of the Malaysian plane in east Ukraine with 295 people on board.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed Ukraine for the crash of the Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777, which fell to earth in the Donetsk region, while covering the route from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital with 280 passengers and 15 crew members.

Moreover, the press makes reference to an alleged U.S. intelligence report suggesting that probably resistance groups in Ukraine shot down the plane although there is no confirmation from Washington (PL)
