Saudi Arabia Condemns Terrorism after Sentencing Islamists

SaudiArabiaSaudi Arabia strongly criticized terrorist and criminal actions in the name of religion and sectarian intolerance, after sentencing 18 Islamists to prison under charges of plotting, disobedience and involvement in violent actions.

Deputy Chairman of the Human Rights Commission Council Zaid bin Abdulmohsen Al Hussein said such actions are incompatible with the constructive initiatives in favor of peace, tolerance and against hatred and racism.

Al Hussein called on the international community to eradicate extremist Sunni groups, however he avoided to mention the Al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State, which are fighting government forces in Syria and Iraq with the well-known support of Saudi Arabia and other countries from the Persian Gulf and the West.

The Council stressed the contents of Riyadh Declaration 2005 and its conclusions and recommendations, including that terrorism represents a continuing threat to regional and global peace, security and stability.

In this sense, Al Hussein added there is no excuse or justification for the actions of terrorists, and that terrorism is always condemned in any of its forms and circumstances. He also condemned world silence on terrorism and the lack of interaction of the international community and UN bodies to fight it.(PL)
