Persian Gulf Resolves Qatar Dispute, Coordinates Anti-terrorist Fight

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has concluded a dispute with Qatar after a foreign ministers meeting that also called today to coordinate the fight against Islamic terrorism taking as a guide Saudi proposals.

The Foreign Ministers meeting of the six nations of the Arab bloc that concluded by Sunday midnight in the port city of Jeddah, managed to resolve six months of diplomatic and political disputes with Doha for its support to the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (MB).

According to what the Oman foreign minister, Yussef bin Alawi bin Abdullah explained , Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed to return their ambassadors soon to the Qatari capital, from where they were withdrawn on March , as a sign of protest with the referred emirate.

The three nations have accused Qatar of destabilizing the region by supporting the Egyptian Islamic group, which have been declared an illegal and a terrorist organization by Cairo last year, but after yesterday’s meeting the crisis have been resolved, said the FM.

They also criticized the close relation between Doha and resistance movements such as the Palestinian Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which are involved with the MB and have given refuge to members of that religious party after the overthrow of president Mohamed Morsi in July, 2013.

Other aspects of the links between the six states of the GCC, of which Kuwait is also a part, is referred to an agreement of security to coordinate actions in the confrontation of threats to the area, particularly terrorism and extremism practiced by various Sunni Muslim armed groups.

The ministerial meeting followed a call of King Abdullah ibn Abdilazīz, from Saudi Arabia to arrange measures ‘rapid and strong’ against terrorism, as it does not only affect the Middle East but will certainly extend to Europe and United States, if it is not take under control on time, he warned.

Abdullah warned that extremist gangs such as Islamic State (ISIS), operating stronger in Iraq and the Al-Nusra Front, more actively in the war against Syria government, will take the West, as its next targets.’ “
