President Rousseff Would Win Elections in 16 Brazilian States

dilma_rousseff_BrazilTwo weeks before elections, president Dilma Rousseff captures the majority of the support among voters in 16 states, seems tie in six other states and would lose in five, according to polls.

Rousseff, who seeks re-election for the Workers Party (WP), will win with a wide-margin in most of the west, north and northeastern states but appears with technical draw in important territories such as Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, with large population of voters, according to the late inquiry of Ibope company.

In Rio, the leader accumulates 37 percent of voters preference, while her main opponent Marina Silva, from the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB), has 34 percent of the support, which is a tie for IBOPE.

In Minas Gerais, the PT candidate accumulates 33 percent of support, while Senator Aécio Neves, candidate for the Social Democracy (PSDB), appears with 29 percent of voter intention, which is also considered as a tie, having into account the margin of error of the pollster.

A study by political analysts pointed out that 60 percent of the election commitments of presidential candidates of the PT, PSDB and PSB are concentrated in the region of Southeast and especially in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.(PL)
