Accomplice of Paris Attackers Was in Turkey

paris_terrorHayat Boumeddiene, the alleged accomplice of one of the men who perpetrated the attacks in Paris over the past few days, was in Turkey, according to intelligence sources quoted by local media on Sunday.

The 26-year-old woman, who so far had been accused of being one of the participants in a recent attack on a police patrol in Paris, where a policewoman was killed, had been in southeastern Turkey since January 2.

A source quoted on the website of the newspaper Hyrriyet Daily News said that Boumeddiene traveled to Syria, after visiting the Turkish town of Sanliurfa, where she arrived with a return ticket from Madrid to Istanbul.

Boumeddiene was regarded as the accomplice of Amedy Coulibaly, who was killed on Friday during an operation by security forces to release the hostages he was holding in a shop in Paris. Four hostages were killed in the operation.

She is one of the most wanted persons by French security authorities after the shoot-out in the headquarters of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, where 12 people were killed, including two police officers who clashed with three attackers.

Turkish intelligence said that Boumeddiene was not apprehended during her stay in the country because France had not issued a warrant for her arrest. (PL)
