Sound and Music Could Affect Memory Processes

woman-with-brain-fogA study has shown that listening to music while studying hinders the chances of memorizing, especially as we age, a specialized magazine released here today.

The research, conducted by Georgia Technology Institute, in the United States, challenged a group of young adults and older adults to try to remember a series of names while they were listening to music.

According to a text published in the Amazing magazine, music did not affect the performance of university participants, but older adults remembered ten percent fewer names when listening to background music.

The authors of the article intended to replicate the average levels of noise and ambiance music of daily life in order to examine the effects on the associative memory, and the ability to connect a name with a face and remember it. (PL)
