China: More Bird Flu Cases Reported

FluMore cases of people infected with the H7N9 virus, three of them in critical condition, were reported in the past 24 hours in the southern Chinese provinces of Guangdong and Jiangxi, according public health authorities.

According to the report issued in this city, they are three men of about 50 years of age in Guangdong in serious condition, and two in neighboring Jiangxi, one of them aged 74.

According to specialists, the H7N9 virus, also known as bird flu, appeared for the first time in humans in March 2013, and people are more likely to become infected by it in winter and spring.

Spokespeople for China Public Health said that several cases have been reported this winter in other places such as Shanghai, Fujian, Guizhou and Zhejiang. (PL)
