The French Government’s spokesman, Stéphane Le Foll, urged Athens to present new proposals to resume negotiations, stating that nobody wants the exit of Greece from the eurozone.

The No stated via referendum by Greece to international creditors won yesterday by more than 61 percent , while the yes side obtained 38,69 percent.

During an interview with television station BFMTV, Le Foll said the result is “a way of saying no to a policy that has brought suffering to the Greeks for five years and saying: respect us as a people”.

By insisting on the need that new proposals be made, he noted that each side must assume its responsibility.

For his part, Pierre Laurent, National Secretary of the French Communist Party and President of the party of the European left, said that respect for the sovereign choice of the people must be the rule in the future, and the starting point for future negotiations.

“France will have to assume the consequences. I hope from our Government total respect for the results of this referendum and strong action for the immediate pursuit of an agreement”, he said.

The victory of the No side means confirmation of the popular rejection of the bailout program proposed by the European institutions and the International Monetary Fund, a plan that includes requirements that are not accepted by the Government headed by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

With the referendum, the Executive sought to achieve citizen support to strengthen its positions at the negotiating table with the troika of creditors.

Speaking after the results, Tsipras asked for the formation of a national front in order to get a better deal for the country.

The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, summoned the heads of State and Government for an extraordinary Summit on Tuesday, aimed to analyze the consequences of the result obtained. (PL)
