Portobello East

Sunday July 26th 2009 marked the opening of Portobello East, a fashion and art market located in the Distillery District in Toronto. Fashioned after the infamous European markets, Portobello East is an event (which takes place on the last Sunday of the month) where local designers and artists can showcase their works in a fun and inspiring environment.

With markets already well established in Vancouver and Calgary, I was pretty excited to hear about this one starting up in Toronto. I mean really, the only thing I’d rather do on a Sunday afternoon other than sleep is check out a market stocked full of super cute clothing, accessories and art!

Some of my favorite finds include:

Cupcake Necklace

I absolutely love cake, so when I saw these adorable cake inspired charm necklaces I had to scoop one up. You can check out Cupcake items on etsy.com.

Sui Generis Peek-a-Boo Dress

A summer inspired denim and floral print strapless party dress with an exposed yellow zipper down the back. I’m not going to lie, I wanted all of the dresses in this booth, but the Peek-a-Boo dress made me squeal with delight. All pieces are made by Jordan de Ruiter and you can custom order this Toronto designer’s work through esty.com as well.

If you’re a designer or an artist and you’re interested in showcasing your work at the market, go to their website, they have an on-line application there. Who knows, maybe next time I’ll be raving about your talents!

Like I said, Portobello East is held on the last Sunday of the month from July through December…so if you’re looking for some really cute and unique pieces, check it out.
