Spring is finally here and its time to get outside and enjoy Toronto. Tonight I participated in a year round event. It’s the “Yorkville Art Walk”. This fun walking tour is free and held the first Thursday of each Month.

The tour director Marg King met with us, out side the Brown Shoe store in Hazelton lanes mall.

I was surprised by the large turnout, we split into two groups.

Bob Cartlidge took the Blue tour to Gallery Hittite, Hollander York gallery, Lane Gallery, and Kinsman Robinson Gallery.

I went with Marg and the Green Tour to Odon Wagner Contemporary gallery, Leonardo Gallery, Hollander York Gallery and The Liss Gallery.

This tour is a great idea. I’ve lived in Toronto my whole life and have never been to many of these galleries. You may ask why? Intimidation I guess, like so many people I know I’ve walked by many of these places thinking of them as exclusive venues for elitist buyers and I have felt to self conscious to walk inside and browse. Being in a group like this allowed me to venture forth into knew territory and I met some really nice people along the way!

Surprisingly we were greeted by informative and open gallerists who were only to happy to introduce us to their works and help us with our questions. At some of the galleries the artists were present which was really a treat.

These Galleries represent a range of artists known both locally and Internationally and correspondingly offer collections that vary in price to intrigue everyone from the most serious fine art collector to people like me who want a special original or printed piece to start off my art collection and make my new place look great.

I’m looking forward to the next tour as the collections change regularly and many of the galleries arrange to have their new collections open on the night of the tour. I can’t wait to see what’s new on the horizon.
