The Pleasures of Women
April 16th-May 8th
Artist: Sara Bilge Caglar

Last year when travelling in Prague, Sara was inspired by to do a show about the secret lives and desires of women.

Using the lightest complimentary hues, Sara Bilge’s ode to female pleasure is told in the most enchanting way. Using folkloric icons of her homeland Turkey, Sarah gives us a vision of female fantasy. Flowers surround women’s faces that smile at us coyly from colored canvases, possibly the view of another time, when women lounged in gardens sipping tea.

Dancers from Stravinsky’s Petrushka and Firebird pirouette on the canvas and even the queen mum, who died on Sarah’s birthday, is portrayed dancing merrily in the waves of her flowered dress.

Another grouping focuses on the special bond between women and their cats.  Still another set of paintings show wedding scenes.

Possibly these are old fashioned notions of the desires of women but  we can all use a little fantasy in our busy lives A retro vision of days gone by or maybe days that never were.
