Asturias is Burning and the Media is Silent + Videos

(Publisher note: This note by larepublica.es expresses the frustration at the mainstream media for their lack of coverage of massive protests happening across Spain with their highest militancy in Asturias to its north. The workers (miners) are protesting austerity measures that have the same goals as the ones that triggered a catastrophe in Greece. We are adding this short note to give a sense of what a situation like this appears on the ground)

Asturias blocked, and the miners cut off and at war. But the news media has devoted only marginal space to these protests so that the example does not spread. In recent days, Asturias has lived with 109 roadblocks and cuts to four sections of railway lines since last Monday, June 4 which began with the regional transit strike, coinciding with ongoing mobilization of the mining sector.

This Thursday railway transport was affected among Asturias and Leon at the height of Bridge Beams by “intentionally cutting” of a tree on the catenary, which occurred around 11.45 am, as indicated by the government office in Asturias.

The cut has affected Alvia train 4271, departing from Madrid and Gijón destination, occupied by 89 passengers, initially held in Saint Lucia (Lion) and transferred back to the station Leon.

Also affected the Alvia train 4100, departing from Gijón to Madrid, with 125 passengers on board, held in Pola de Lena and back to the station of Oviedo.

Passengers on both lines remain to be resettled in other means of transport and ADIF works to restore rail traffic between Asturias and Leon.

Among the various events recorded on the roads of Asturias during the last few days and related to the reported demonstrations and strikes, the Government Office has reported that this Thursday, at 9.00 am the National Police learned that two buses with disabled children inside, were stoned resulting in material damage to the plate and mirrors when driving on the Avenue of Oviedo, Gijón, at the height of Hipercor Mall.

Miners continue to struggle. The media remain silent.
