Crisis in Egypt: Day 5

Promises of a cabinet reshuffle announced by President Hosni Mubarak on Friday night have changed nothing. Hundreds of Egyptians were gathered on Saturday morning on Tahir Square in central Cairo. As on previous days, the crowd shouted “Mubarak leave”.

The televised speech by the Egyptian President did not calm the thirst for freedom and change of its citizens. Friday night, the president blew hot and cold in an attempt to recover the situation. Hot: the announcement of the dissolution of the current government and promises of new freedoms. “There will be no turning back on the path of reform that we have chosen, and we will move forward with new measures that confirm our respect for the independence of justice and freedom for citizens … There will be new measures for an independent judiciary, democracy, to grant more freedom to citizens, to fight unemployment, increase living standards, expand services and support the poor. “

The cold: “It is not by burning and attacking public and private property that we will respond to the aspirations of Egypt and his sons, but through dialogue, awareness and effort … The border is thin between freedom and chaos, and I look out for people’s freedom to express their opinions as much as I like the need to maintain security and stability of Egypt. “

On Friday , protests were held in all major cities. The headquarters of the National Democratic Party, in power, was burned in the capital. The curfew was declared in Cairo, Alexandria and Suez from 6pm to 7am, until further notice. An AFP journalist reported that the soldiers hurled signs of victory and that police officers shook hands with demonstrators in the evening in Cairo.
