Toronto Notes: February 14. 2011

In case you are a hopeless optimist and thought you had honest ministers in our federal government take heed: International Co-operation Minister Bev Oda admitted that she ordered a document to be doctored to deny funding to the church-backed aid group Kairos. If you managed to watch this on TV you will see the nauseating flip flop she did as well. Sick. If you want to judge for yourself if Kairos is worthy of funding or not go here.

A good reason to never do an office pool? Finally a resolution has been reached in the $50 million Lotto Max dispute involving a group of Bell Canada call centre employees. But the catch is that they won’t get all the money until a judge figures out who gets what in light of a counter claim by a group that claims they were part of the pool. I must admit that watching what money can do to people is a tad disturbing but I can understand why people would get desperate to get out of a call centre.

Apparently there is still hope that Canada will not be known as Bieber Nation. The Arcade Fire seemingly surprised everyone, including themselves, by winning the Grammy for Album of the Year. Not too bad of a night. Legend Neil Young got his first and Michael Buble added yet another for Canada. Here is the Arcade Fire with a lively performance of “Keep The Car Running”

Facebook group for this week? Dissolve the CRTC I am a little tired of feeling like the CRTC is not really looking out for the public’s best interest as their charter likes to proclaim. While on the topic of Facebook. If you are irritated with the new photo viewer they have you can get rid of it by pressing F5 on your windows based computer (Thank you Val!) I also found this video for Chrome users. I hope this brings me good Karma:

Happy Valentine’s day to all those that refuse to drink the cynical cool aid. I know its a corporate fest designed to make you feel guilty, but I figure that if you can avoid the flower fest and use today to focus on a significant other it is worth it. Just remember that your significant other may appreciate you even more if you decide to make them your Valentine say in March or April or May, on a Monday when you wake up or a Thursday when you come home tired of the world. But also remember that love was always bigger than just two… I will now follow my own advice and go see that significant one. Good dreams everyone maybe this will inspire you:
