The Artist Project Toronto

The Artist Project has filled me with hope for the Toronto Arts scene! The opening gala introduced me to Artists whose work is vibrant and challenging and I was overjoyed to see humor instilled in work, created with great technique.

Standouts: Zane Turner www.zaneturner.com creates hyper realistic portraits using an encaustic wax technique that he mastered while studying for his BFA at Concordia University. Zane splatters his subjects with paint seeking to amplify their inner spirit and break their barrier with the outside world. What we see are dynamic portraits full of expression and detail heightened by the masterful placement of wax and pigment.

Thoughtful works by students like Yoon Jin Jung, who will be having a solo show at York University March 7th-13th provoke our senses with multi media works that integrate video and figurative drawings to create other worldly beings.

Ceramic Artist, France Goneau http://www.francegoneau.ca brings us a contemporary approach to ceramics, shaped to highlight the chemistry of the materials used. Organic looking creations are infused on delicate materials hanging in space

Angelo Sorrentino  and Nathalie Sanche www.sorrentinosanche.com draw on the morphing ability of wood and deft metal casting  to bring us Dr Seuss like cabinetry filled with whimsy and energy.

Richard Ahnert  http://www.ahnertart.com is a graphic artist who aims to humor us with twisted visions of  half human, half animal characters, its up to the viewer to decide what the story is behind this presentation.

Spring is here, a great time to buy some new art to change the look of your home and you can definitely find some cool stuff here.
