Igor Dubosarski is a personal Trainer at the Columbus Centre who works tirelessly with his clients.  His soft-spoken manner and empathy, gives the people he works with the positive encouragement and inspiration they need to persevere and achieve their fitness goals.

Unknown to most of Igor’s Fitness peers, he also directs his empathetic eye through the camera lens, and has produced pictures that take us into the souls of his subjects. Much of his recent exhibit at The Columbus Centre in Toronto were poignant studies of people taken on a recent trip to Cuba.

Dubosarski has managed to bring forth the spirit, angst, and energy from the scenes he has captured on film.

“I began to deal with photography when I was about 14-years-old. Back in Russia, my father was an amateur photographer and he began to take me to photo sessions with him. I spent a lot of hours with him in the dark room, in our bathroom, printing black and white photographs with what now seems like ancient technology.

When I got older, I participated in photography exhibits with other amateur photographers.

In 1990, after my immigration to Israel, I put my hobby aside because I had no time, nor the money.

I regret it very much, because my 11-years in Israel would have been a great opportunity to practice photography.  Israel is an amazingly beautiful and unexpectedly contradictory country, which would have inspired me to take the best photos. But there is always a “but”.

In 2001 I immigrated to Canada, and in fact again I had no time to deal with photography.

igors-work1 About three years ago, my friends surprised me with a Chanukah present. They gave me a gift certificate to Best Buy. This was a gift organized by my friends to push me back into the art of photography. I bought a new camera and rediscovered the amazing world of digital photography.

Only, imagine the 20-year-old gap I had to fill. From black and white photography in the dark room to the computerized world of digital photography.

I took a few Photoshop courses and read a lot of books about digital photography.

The exhibition in Columbus Centre was the result of 3 years of a hobby re-animated (revived) by my friends.

I think there is no simple way to put into words, or to explain in general, how a creator’s mind works when he is creating something. In my opinion the creation process is something that will never be explained by science.

About my pictures I could only say what the majority of artists can say, the creation looks the way I feel or felt.

About my future plans… for sure I would like to have additional exhibitions in the future.  I have no particular plans, because again we cannot plan art. I only hope to have the kind of inspiration I had in those 3 years.”
