TubeVox DVD Review: Eco-Pirate: The Story of Paul Watson

By Alexandra Villmann

Our newest DVD pick is a documentary recently released about a topic close to Canadians hearts and anyone who cares about our marine life:

This one is about a defender of the oceans “Eco -Pirate: The Story of Paul Watson“: Known to many as “The bad boy of the Canadian environmental movement” let’s just say that Paul Watson is not popular at Greenpeace headquarters. In this first feature-length doc from Trish Dolman we get to see first hand what the co-founder of Greenpeace and founder of the more radical offshoot Sea Shepherd Conservation Society does. While some may not agree with his methods you would be nearly heartless not to support his cause or at least understand it as he sets to protect the oceans from predatory tactics that all too often are hidden behind “scientific” explorations. It can be quite graphic. This documentary was one of the top 10 audience favourites at the recent Hot Docs Documentary festival. Well worth seeing.
