Notorious Los Zetas Drug Cartel Founder Captured

Mexico”s Navy has announced that the founder of Los Zetas drug cartel, Lucio Hernandez, aka “Lucky” and the number three man of that cartel, was arrested.

The top two Los Zetas leaders, Heriberto Lazcano, aka “Lazca”, and Miguel Treviño, remain at large.

“Lucky” led the drug cartel operations in 10 of Mexico’s 32 states, Navy Vice Admiral Jose Luis Vergara said during the presentation of the founding member of Los Zetas.

The Mexican states in which Los Zetas operate are Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, Quintana Roo and the State of Mexico.

“Lucky” had been on the list of the top 37 most wanted criminals since 2009. The police have so far captured 22 of them.

The 37 criminals on the list have a bounty on their head of 30 million pesos (2.17 million US dollars) in Mexico and five million dollars in the United States.

The notorious Los Zetas founder was captured during a ground operation on the Veracruz-Mexico highway. The Navy said that the arrest resulted from intensive intelligence work.
