Community: Save Our Vilma

(Publisher’s note: This urgent appeal appeared on my desk via a friend who shared this story with me. As it moved me I hope it will do the same for you, every bit helps and it only takes a moment to sign the petition)

Vilma has end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and requires hemodialysis. According to doctors at Toronto General Hospital, a transplant from a living donor could improve her length and quality of life. Without a living donor however, there is a 10 year waiting period for a kidney from a deceased donor. Vilma has already been waiting 3 years. Families and individuals who are waiting are encouraged to search for willing donors while they remain on this list.

The Serrano Family have a willing donor for Vilma.  However, this family friend is currently in El Salvador, and must come to Canada in order to undergo the tests and procedures.  The Serrano family have confirmed they will cover any and all expenses for the donor, and have applied twice for a temporary visa for their friend in order so that he can donate one of his kidneys to Vilma.  Despite all of this as well as letters of support from Toronto General Hospital and their local MP Andrew Cash, he has been denied entry to Canada.

This is where you come in.  We need to put pressure on the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Jason Kenney to use his power as Minister to grant a temporary visa through a Ministerial Intervention to allow the donor, Guillermo David Martell Novas into Canada to act as a kidney donor for Vilma Serrano.
