Mexicans Call for Transparency Ahead of Next Sunday’s Elections

The Mexican people demand transparency guarantees ahead of general elections scheduled for July 1 while in the midst of the electoral ban. In this sense, the four presidential candidates have signed the Electoral Civility Pact before the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE).

TeleSUR’s envoy to Mexico, Jorge Fita, reported on Thursday that members of the university movement # YoSoy132 have asked the media not to influence the electoral process.

The coordinator for the campaign # YoSoy132 in Monterrey (North), Peter Chambers, said that “in the Federal District a march will be held prior to the last day before the elections”, while confirming that probable march for Saturday.

Members of # YoSoy132 expressed in the Mexican city that if you want a real democracy democratization of the media is essential.

The Electoral Civility document, which aims to recognize the election results, was signed by the candidates vying to succeed the current president, Felipe Calderon, in part due to tensions before the elections.

Candidates for the presidential chair are: Josefina Vazquez Mota, National Action Party (PAN), the candidate of the Movimiento Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), Enrique Peña Nieto, the Party of Democratic Revolution (PRD), Andrés Manuel López Obrador , and Gabriel Quadri by the New Alliance Party (Panal/Honeycomb).

For Sunday’s election, the Mexican people will elect a new president and will renew Parliament, municipal and state authorities, which means over two thousand different posts.
