Krisiun is a band that has managed to survive and stay together for more than a decade. As the majority of bands that have made it this long, they have a clearly defined sound. However, that does not mean that there are no surprises in store as they continuously strive for perfection, like their most recent production called Southern Storm.
Krisiun re-establishes its position within the Death Metal scene, as one of the best bands of all times, after the release of this album. The songs that compose Southern Storm are very diverse in their sounds, for good. One can find brutal riffs done at an unbelievable speed, and suddenly finishing in the most incredible solos. These songs are extraordinarily well-put together. One can still tell both the Extreme sound from the precision that makes Krisiun’s music unforgettable. Both these elements cannot be easily combined, but this Brazilian trio obtains the perfect equilibrium in each and every one of their songs.
Max Kolesne displays an unbelievably ability to interpret classical Death Metal. His role in this album is highlighted once he manages to establish the pace through his drums, which gives Krisiun its ability to achieve its incomparable sound.
Southern Storm contains a tribute that the three brothers decide to give to perhaps the most legendary band in the history of Brazilian Metal. I am obviously talking about Sepultura. Their cover of Refuse/Resist cannot be compared with the original version done by the sister band. However, it does stick to its original idea of bringing a very well-done tribute to Sepultura. If you were to ask me my personal opinion about this album, I would say that Southern Storm is one more reason to give Krisiun the title of one of the best Death Metal bands in the world, thanks to their recurrent consistency in all their albums.
