Four NME Awards Nominations For The Rolling Stones

The legendary British rock band The Rolling Stones got four nominations for what are now traditional awards presented annually by the magazine New Musical Express (NME) in the UK.

The band, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, will compete for the awards in the categories of best live band, best book, musical moment of the year and best music film.

Rolling Stones returned to shine on stage after the recent publication of a photo book, an album of their greatest hits, a documentary film and an international tour to celebrate its half century of existence.

Mick Jagger, lead singer of the British band, acknowledged that it’s great to be nominated for the NME awards.

Mike Williams, editor of NME, said the publication’s awards are the peak of the musical calendar in the annual festival of rock and roll, and recognized that it is exciting to see such a wide range of artists nominated this time.

The band of sisters Haim LA, Australian rock band Tame Impala, and M.I.A also received four nominations for NME awards.

The British composer and musician David Bowie has three NME nominations, after returning to the music world with the release of his first single in a decade.

The list of nominees for the NME awards included in the category of best British band to groups Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, The Vaccines, Biffy Clyro, The Maccabees and The Cribs.

The awards for best album will be contested between Orange Channel, by Frank Ocean, Jake Bugg, by Jake Bugg, Given To The Wild, by The Maccabees, An Awesome Wave, by Alt-J; Come Of Age, by The Vaccines, and Lonerism by Tame Impala.

The category of international rock and roll bands includes The Killers, Tame Impala, The Black Keys, Odd Future, Crystal Castles and Foo Fighters.

Jake Bugg, Noel Gallagher, Florence Welch, Miles Kane, Grimes and Paul Weller will compete for the prize for best soloist, among other nominees.

The NME awards were known in the 1950s and 1960s as the Pollwinners’ Concert, and from 1971 to 1993, were conducted through a survey of the readers of NME.

Now the voting is done over the Internet and culminates with a great live show, which this year will be held at The Troxy, East London, on February 27.
