India PM Describes as “Slow” Negotiations on Climate Change

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today described as “painfully slow” climate change negotiations and recalled the greatest responsibility of industrialized countries for emissions of greenhouse gases.

Singh urged the community of nations to take measures to promote the use of clean energy and said that in recognition of the importance of developing a strategy for low carbon cosumo inclusive and sustainable growth, India will double by 2017 its capacity renewable energy.

India is a big market for the production of such equipment and also a potential competitive production base to supply other countries, he said.

Representatives of Latin American countries in the Organization of American States (OAS) on Wednesday endorsed President-elect of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, after his victory at the polls last April 14.

During a regular meeting at the agency’s headquarters, the representative of Nicaragua to the agency wished, on behalf of his people and government, “the greatest success” to Nicolas Maduro elected by popular will as head of state of Venezuela, for the period 2013 to 2019.

He congratulated the Venezuelan people “on the democratic election day” held last Sunday.

The delegate of Uruguay, representing the member countries of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), congratulated the Venezuelan people for their extensive involvement in the presidential elections and reaffirmed the commitment with President Maduro for further regional integration.

The Colombian commission noted that the election results issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela must be respected under the ruling of the Chair of the organ, Tibisay Lucena.

For his part, the representative of the Republic of Peru, also welcomed, and endorsed Venezuela’s elected president, Nicolas Maduro.

The delegate of Brazil also joined the other delegations greeting to the people and Government of Venezuela for the election of Nicolas Maduro.

More than 30 nations have recognized and congratulated the victory of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela, including Argentina, Ecuador, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Brazil, Panama, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, Guatemala , Haiti, Palestine, Russia, and China.

 

Germany Cuts Economic Growth Prospects

Germany’s main economic institutes cut their 2013 growth prospects for the country, placing it at 0.8 percent, according to the national press.

The figure, which will be officially made public on Thursday, is a backward step in comparison to the 1.0 percent previously predicted.
