Rafael Correa Lashes Out at the Press Focus on Snowden

rafael-correa_0003The President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, stated today that the international media is focused on Edward Snowden while it ignores his charges regarding actions against the people of the United States and the world.

Through his Twitter account the president stressed that the Washington Post had “accused” Ecuador of having double standards.

They have managed to focus on Snowden (an ex-intelligence agent who fled the United States) and the “evil” countries that “support” him, making us forget the terrible actions he denounced against the U.S. people and the whole world, he expressed on Twitter.

“The world order is not only unjust, it is immoral,” stressed the president.

This week, Ecuador’s Foreign Ministry said that it will carefully analyze the asylum application made by the former employee of the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency.

The Ecuadorian government puts principles above its interests, said Foreign Affairs Minister Ricardo Patiño in a press conference from Vietnam where he was on an official visit.

Patiño said, from Kuala Lumpur, where he is on a working visit, that Ecuador might take some time to make a decision on granting asylum to Snowden, highlighted the media.

Snowden is currently being pursued by Washington after revealing early in June details of the NSA program to spy on telecommunications in the U.S. and worldwide, causing a huge stir in U.S. public opinion and around the world.
