Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood Appoints New Leader

muslim-brotherhoodThe Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood appointed today Mahmud Ezat as the new spiritual leader of the strict organization, to replace Mohammed Badie, detained by the police.

The religious leader was detained yesterday together with another member of the Brotherhood, Talat Yusef, after six days of security forces attacks, started on August 14 with two campers eviction for the return of the former government.

The detention of both Islamists occurred in an apartment at Al Tayaran St. near the Adauiya Rabaa Square, which together with the Al Nahda, was one of two occupied by supporters of President Mohamed Morsi, dismissed on July 3 .

The clashes taking place since Wednesday, August 14, between the police forces and the army in this capital, in the Sinai Peninsula and in other inland regions, have already killed more than 800 people and injured thousands.

Protests by Muslim fundamentalists, whose main demand is Morsi’s return to power, are violently confronted by the Government imposed by the military dictatorship, which ratified its decision to not yield to the Islamic action.

EU Decries Attack That Killed 24 Egyptian Policemen

The European Union (EU) today decried the Islamist action in the Egyptian Sinai in which 24 Egyptian policemen died, amidst a wave of government violence against protests for the reinstatement of President Mohamed Morsi in power.

A statement of the community bloc also expressed concern at the death by suffocation of 36 Muslim sticklers when they were moved as prisoners to a jail for protesting against the dismissal last July 3 of the elected Head of State.

The current escalation of violence began in the North African state with eviction by force of two separate camping spaces last July 14, occupied by islamists in protest since six weeks ago.
