President Correa Shows Chevron’s Pollution in Amazonia

chevronEcuadorian President Rafael Correa showed the world today the pollution caused by the U.S. Chevron oil company to the Amazonian jungle.

Correa visited, along with other Ecuadorian authorities and national and international media, the Aguarico 4 well, located in Lago Agrio locality, in Sucumbios province, and received a technical explanation of the pollution the late Texaco, since then acquired by Chevron, caused.

With this visit, Correa begins an international campaign, during which well-known figures and celebrities have come together to condemn this action and while visiting some areas of the Amazonia, where Chevron operated.

The government’s campaign responds to Chevron’s denial to recognize the ruling of an Ecuadorian court that sentenced it to pay a compensation equivalent to 19 billion USD to the inhabitants of the Amazonia.

Chevron appealed to an international court and accuses the Ecuadorian justice system of corruption in their actions against the company.
