Scientists in Australia Develop a Male Contraceptive Pill

contraceptiveResearchers at the University of Melbourne have developed a contraceptive pill for men that blocks the release of sperm, the ABC television network reported today.

According to the report, the scientists used genetically modified rats to test the contraceptive, which can block two essential proteins for the release of sperm through the male reproductive organs.

The scientific tests proved that rats that were given the product had sexual relations but did not ejaculate sperm, said Sab Ventura, head of the research team.

According to the expert’s statements, the contraceptive for men will be marketed, but no date has been set.

It will come in the shape of a pill and will probably have to be taken daily.

If a man wants to have children after a period of taking that pill, he would just need to stop taking it, Ventura said.

He explained that the new procedure should not cause any long-term side effects that would affect future conception. (PL)
