US Congressmen Receive Three Times Employee Salary

06senate2-600US Congress members receive three times the salary than that of the average salary paid to full-time workers in the United States, as revealed here by a research organization of the Alliance for Taxpayer Protection (APC).

Each US congressman earns about 286,000 dollars a year, including 174,000 by just the basic salary, compared to 55,000 received by the full-time workers in the private sector in the same period of time.

“The financial entries of the US congressmen put them among the US best-paid workers, and that is why they should reduce their budget themselves, to contribute to the reduction of the national public debt, which is over 17 trillion dollars.

APC president David Williams said US Congress members should reduce their salaries, in the same way the salaries of the US middle class families are being reduced.

“With an unprecedented national debt and a more dysfunctional Congress than ever, taxpayers deserve better results” said MacMillin Slobodien, executive director of the nonprofit organization Our Generation, who also participated in the study.

According to a recent Gallup poll, only 16 percent of Americans approve of the work of the legislature, the lowest rate since 1974 for a year’s midterm elections which are to be held next November.

The survey showed a decrease in this parameter compared to 2010, when the rate of acceptance of the work of the Capitol came to 21 percent, while in 2002 it was 50 percent. (PL)
