Canada Favors Discussing Human Trafficking at Asia-Pacific Forum

Foro_Human_traffickingThe fight against human trafficking and the actions to improve mother-child health care are the topics that Canada has proposed for debate at the 23rd Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum in Ecuador, lawmaker Michael Wallace said on Wednesday.

According to the Canadian legislator, it is fundamental to discuss those complex issues at a parliamentary event, as the meetings of representatives of the executive levels are more common than those by people who pass laws in their countries.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Wallace noted that the meeting, which opened on Sunday, is an opportunity to foster in-depth dialogue on these matters, further understand each other and better understand these phenomena.

Regarding human trafficking, he explained that Canada has taken steps to fight it, such as bringing the perpetrators of those crimes to justice.

According to Wallace, unfortunately there is much human trafficking from the Asia-Pacific region, thus the importance of discussing the problem at the forum.

In that regard, he pointed out, Canada is encouraging the countries to recognize the need to fight human trafficking as the beginning of a process aimed at preventing that phenomenon, for which it is vital to try those who are in the business and get economic benefits from it.

On mother-child health care, Wallace noted that guaranteeing it is to assure the welfare of future generations.

In that respect, he pointed out that his country reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing health care to mothers and children, as well as helping other countries to meet this challenge. (Written by Luisa María González/PL)
