When we were told that the stars of the new upcoming comedy “Hot Tub Time Machine” Clark Duke ( SEX DRIVE, “Greek”) and Collette Wolfe ( OBSERVE AND REPORT) were coming into town to promote their new movie, and that on top of that they would be placing a giant hot tub literally in the middle of the Air Canada Centre. Naturally we had to see this with our own eyes.

An interesting night followed, not just because of the overabundance of bubbles or the “cameo” by Maple Leafs hero Wendel Clark, but because it allowed for a chance to speak to these two stars in a very informal way, so much so that Clark Duke still was getting foam out of his hair as we spoke to both stars.

The film is about a group of friends who travel back in time after a night of heavy drinking. If you think that it may sound a tad like something the “Superbad” team would come up with, well you would not be far off. The novelty is that this time around it’s done with the aid of a magical hot tub time machine.

“I thought it sounded awesome,” said Duke. “It didn’t take a whole lot of convincing on my part.”

“Going back to 1986 in a hot tub, why not?” said Wolfe.

There is a certain modesty in the way these two stars approach questions, even when the online buzz for the film is gather quite a lot of steam.

Added Wolfe: “You kind of hope that people are going to be excited, but you don’t really assume.”meluke

Besides the always reliable and funny John Cusack, Craig Robinson, and Rob Corddry, you find geek favorite Crispin Glover and veteran comedy man Chevy Chase.

“Crispin Glover? Amazing to work with,” shared Wolfe, and to give a sense of the vibe on set, she added he even helped her with an another audition while they were filming Hot Tub Time Machine. “Such a nice guy. I actually didn’t have any of my scenes with him, but he was incredible.”

“He’s a hell of a karaoke singer,” added Duke.

“Yeah, he’s amazing. Actually, he sang — what did he sing?”

“Ben,” said Duke.

“Ben, Michael Jackson’s song. Yeah, it was really amazing. Chevy Chase, though…”

“Chevy was awesome,” said Duke. “He’s my lifelong hero, and I told him that on the first day, ’cause otherwise I was gonna throw up around him or something. But it was great. We ended up having dinner every night for like a week, and all our scenes were together for the most part. It was really awesome.”

And their favourite part of 80s culture?

“The music,” said Duke.

“The hair, for me. I love the hair. I thought it was amazing. It really does wonder for framing your face. A lot of teasing. It was really big. Big hair is great for a woman’s face,” said Wolfe. “It took about two hours to put it up.”

“Two hours?” asked an incredulous Duke.

“My hair is a work of art in this movie,” said Wolfe. “I literally look like I’m wearing a helmet.”

I simply had to ask Duke how long it took him to get ready.

“Six minutes? I don’t know. Not long.”
