I’ve spent many hours lurking around in record shops, sometimes working, sometimes spending pay cheques. Years ago, I walked into a shop that was going out of business and selling off all of their really good, hard-to-get stuff for really cheap! Among the stack of records I walked out with were a bunch of the BBE spectrum compilations. Tons of incredibly rare and catchy soul tracks carefully compiled by masters of digging like Keb Darge and Bob Jones. The inspiration for putting this mixtape together comes from two sources, the first is all of those spectrum mixes (which I borrow from heavily for this mixtape :). The second is an awesomely random drunken message that I got a couple weeks ago from Robert J. Fowler requesting some of those rare soul tracks. Here you are my man, Funk U Mixtape! Dig it!
