Hot Docs 2010 Draws Interesting European Delegation From Italy

Among the many aspects of the amazing “Hot Docs” Film Festival to look forward to, this one has to be right up there. From our friends at the Italian Consulate we received the following:

“Building on the success of the Italian participation at the 2009 Hot Docs, a delegation of 18 filmmakers will mark an impressive Italian presence again at this year’s Documentary Festival. The delegation is organized by the Italian Trade Commission, in cooperation with Doc/it, the Association of Italian Documentary film-makers.

A total of 25 projects will be presented during the Toronto Documentary Forum (TDF) on May 5 and 6 during the Festival, April 29 – May 9, 2010. Recognized as the international documentary community’s essential North American market event, the TDF celebrates its 11th anniversary in 2010. This year’s Italian project was selected from 160 submissions and represent 13 different countries. The Italian project selected is: “Cosmic Energy” by Paolo Pallavidino and Giuseppe Schillaci, a creative documentary on current affairs, environmental and social issues explores three men, one company and one challenge: to apply cosmic vibrations in order to provide clean food, eliminating the use of fertilizers.

This year for the first time The Italian Trade Commission in association with DOC/it will organize a micro-meeting May 5, 2010 from 2:30-3:30pm at the Rogers Industry Centre open to all broadcasters participating at the festival. The meeting will be led by Raffaele Brunetti, Director of the Italian DOC Screenings, Federico Schiavi, President of DOC/it, Ritva Leino, Commissioning Editor YLE Finland and Lorenzo Hendel , Commissioning Editor RAI 3, Italy . The meeting will focus on highlighting the IDS Italian DOC Screening event coming up in November 17-20, 2010 in Florence, Italy.

The Italian film industry recognizes the Hot Docs festival as a significant gateway to the North American market.  “Toronto and Italy speak the same language of business, film and art. This year the Italian delegates are encouraged by the level of sustainability shown by Canada during this global recession” says Paolo Ponti, Italian Trade Commissioner. “It is hard to make evaluations on a business level for our organization: however, we started five years ago with 4 delegates participating at HotDocs and since then have consistently increased in number””

Alternavox will definitely continue to report on the going on’s at this premiere festival in the coming weeks. In the meantime get information here
