Pakistani Girl Shot by Taliban Sent to UK

Malala Yousafzai, the schoolgirl attacked by the Taliban, is out of danger, but has been sent to the United Kingdom for further treatment.

The decision was made by the medical team in consultation with the girl´s family and all of her treatment expenses will be paid by the Pakistani government, a communiqué of the Army Press Office noted on Monday.

Malala, 14, who was awarded the National Youth Peace Prize in 2011, was shot last Tuesday when she left her school in Swat valley, a zone located northeast the country that is usually attacked by groups of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who take refuge in the neighboring Afghanistan.

Although her life was miraculously spared, she had to undergo a complicated operation, as a result of one of the bullets having passed through her head and lodging in her shoulder

A military spokesman told the Geo News private television network that Malala will have to undergo lengthy treatment to fully recover psychologically and physically.

TTP claimed responsibility for the attack, underlining that killing Malala was a Sharia obligation, since the schoolgirl had embraced Western ideals and secularism.

Some 5,000 Employees to Be Laid off by Air France

Air France announced a reorganization program aimed at lowering costs, envisaging a rationalization of services and the elimination of 5,122 jobs.

The project also includes a division into three independent sectors of the passenger transport activity, which amounts to 80 percent of the company’s income.

The three units, which will operate separately, will be long distance, medium international journey and domestic flights.

According to the plan, named Transform 2015, the key element to maintain the company’s profits and cut the huge debt will be a drastic cut in staff in the next two years.

The layoffs will affect some 2,700 ground workers, mainly from airport facilities, and plane maintenance, and the rest will be crew members and cabin technical staff.
