NORTH BY NORTHEAST (NXNE) has announced its first round of NXNE Music + Interactive programming for its 20th anniversary, taking place during the expanded dates June 13-22, 2014.
NXNE Music has confirmed performances by ST. VINCENT, following the February release of her much-anticipated self-titled fourth solo album; Three 6 Mafia co-founder and Academy Award winner JUICY J; DANNY BROWN, whose album Old placed on Exclaim!’s “Best of Hip Hop 2013” list; 2013 Polaris Music Prize long listers RHYE; the stage antics of MAC DEMARCO which have built up buzz on NME and Brooklyn Vegan; and hip-hop heavyweights El-P and Killer Mike’s Guardian-featured RUN THE JEWELS.
Also on the music lineup: legendary Syrian artist OMAR SOULEYMAN, supporting the release of his first studio album aimed at Western audiences – the Four Tet-produced Wenu Wenu; Massachusetts rockers SPEEDY ORTIZ, tipped by SPIN on their “Best New Artist” list; Australian artist COURTNEY BARNETT, who captured Stereogum’s attention with her “Album of the Week”, The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas; ODONIS ODONIS, the band NME wishes had soundtracked the violent parts of Fight Club; and The FADER-profiled MAS YSA, whose debut single earned him a Pitchfork “Best New Track” designation.
As part of NXNE Interactive (NXNEi), the festival will present over 65 sessions with a roster of speakers including PAUL ROSENBERG, who has steered Eminem’s career since 1997 as the President of Shady Records and CEO of Goliath Artists; OVO Founder and co-manager for Drake, OLIVER EL-KHATIB; entertainment lawyer and Last Gang Records Co-Founder CHRIS TAYLOR, who represents some of the biggest names in music; President of Pitchfork CHRIS KASKIE, whose groundbreaking site has changed music criticism; and Executive Vice President and Head of Content at Dat Piff KP SWAZY, the authority on online mix tapes and new ways to consume rap and hip-hop.
