Extraordinary Blue Diamond Found in Cullinan Mine, South Africa

Blue DiamondA rare blue diamond of almost 123 carats and valued at hundreds of millions of dollars, was found 30 kilometers from the South African capital, Pretoria, today confirmed the company Cullinan Petra Diamonds.

According to a statement by the company, the size of that blue diamond distinguishes it as a real significant finding.

The rarity of a blue diamond of this size distinguishes it as a truly significant finding, said the company in a statement.

Last year, the consortium Petra sold in the London market a blue gem with similar characteristics but only 25.5 carats in $ 17.5 million at current exchange rates.

The jewel in the rough was found a short distance from the place where the world’s largest diamond called The Star of Africa appeared, in January 1905, a discovery that had been prophesied 20 years before by Jules Verne in his book Adventure The Star of the South.

Spokesmen from the Cullinan mine operated by the British company Petra Diamonds, explained that indigo gemstones are the rarest and most coveted in the global market.

The incredible rarity of blue diamonds, along with the rich history associated with many of the most important stones make them valuable and highly collectible items in the modern world, business spokesmen pointed.

The color of the diamond is caused by small amounts of boron trapped in the carbon crystal structure when the granite is formed.

Petra Diamonds is a global diamond mining company based in Jersey, near the English Channel, and has a diversified portfolio of interests in eight mines in South Africa, Tanzania, and Botswana.

The price of a diamond is determined by the criteria of color, clarity weight, among others. (PL)
