UN Announces Initiative to Combat Climate Change

U.N. Secretary General Ban addresses a news conference in ViennaUN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today that the United Nation’s 2014 Climate Summit celebrated today contributed initiatives and partnerships in the field of agriculture, industry, finance, forestry, energy and cities to tackle global warming. In a meeting with the accredited press, the diplomat emphasized that governments, entrepreneurs, financial groups and civil society representatives agreed to implement actions to combat a phenomenon that threatens human survival.

According to Ban, the initiatives and partnerships will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen the resistance to the impact of climate change, to which are linked to dangers such as the elevation of sea level, the increase of extreme events and the destruction of ecosystems.’

A change is perceptible now, the Climate Summit has shown a cooperative new and universal approach to the problem. The announced measures demonstrate the willingness to confront it together, and will make the difference’, the leader said.

According to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Forum that brought together more than 120 Heads of State or Government reflected a high level of ambition when searching solutions against climate change.

The one-day event hosted by different rooms of the UN headquarters in New York, will mobilize more than 200 billion USD, addressed to sectors as decarbonisation, nature-friendly investment and assistance to countries in development. (PL)
