Photographer: Seattle Dredge

Seattle, named after the Seattle Seahawks football team, (her father was a big fan) has been inspired to take pictures since she was a kid, but after a trip to Italy at 17 Seattle’s’ photography passion really took off. Now 21, Seattle is a student majoring in Sociology at York University’s Glendon Campus. She works part time as a freelance photographer from her home studio.
The winning picture was taken of Parkour Artist Craig Henry. “We were just downtown shooting some random pictures when Craig jumped up on a chair that was a permanent installation at the foot of the TD building.” Shot with a digital Nikon using a wide angled lens and no special lighting. Seattle manages to get a surreal off balance effect that intrigued us all and won her first place in our Alternavox “Expose your Toronto” Photo Challenge.
This year, Seattle spent some time studying Catalan culture. She is planning a trip to Barcelona and Turkey this summer. “I’m looking forward to taking some pictures of the Gaudi architecture I’ll encounter there”. Possibly she will do a show of this new work at Glendon next year. I’m really looking forward to seeing the pictures she comes home with.
Originally from the small town of Waterford Ontario, Seattle came to Toronto four years ago to attend York. Always inspired by traveling, Seattle hopes to teach English as a second language abroad, as she pursues her dream of becoming a world-class travel photographer.
